T.G.Lynes
is one of the foremost independent suppliers to
the mechanical services, heating, plumbing and
air movement industries. The company prides itself
on success brought about due to its wide range
of stock, quality of service and the experience
of its staff - both on the Trade Counters as well
as in the Sales Office.
The
company was founded in 1885 by Thomas George Lynes
(Senior) and initially began trading under the
name T.G.Lynes. Based in Kings Cross, it originally
operated as a Builders Merchants and Ironmonger.
On
28th April 1934, Thomas George Lynes (Junior)
incorporated T.G.Lynes as a limited company and
its official name changed to T.G.Lynes and Sons
Ltd. Based at 17
Caledonian Road, the emphasis of the company
changed and for twenty years, it primarily traded
as an Engineers Merchant.
In
July 1940, workshops at 6-10
Wharfdale Road were opened. Employing
lathe operators, the company produced thousands
of various machine bits for the war effort on
request by the Ministry of Defence. When production
ceased in 1945, the company diversified into selling
Electrical products.
In
1951, it was realised that there was a future
in the supply of pipe-fittings, tubes and valves
to the heating industry. The property at 51
Caledonian Road was purchased in order
to pursue this line of stock and due to its success,
it required further expansion into 82
Caledonian Road in 1958.
In
1964, it was decided that all the Mechanical Services
products would be stocked on one site. The property
at 35-41
Caledonian Road (including 2-10
Balfe Street) was purchased and this left
the ventilation and electrical departments trading
out of the premises in nearby Wharfdale Road.
This department was consequently relocated into
Head Office upon the acquisition of 47-49 Caledonian
Road in 1992.
In
1975, the opportunity to further diversify was
taken by establishing Lynes Plant Hire - a separate
limited company within the plant hire market.
It traded successfully as an independent entity
until its consolidation into T.G.Lynes and Sons
Ltd as a wholly owned subsidiary on 1st January
1996.
In
1985, T.G.Lynes expanded further by acquiring
a 100% controlling interest in C.C. Gambles and
Co Ltd. Based in South London near Crystal Palace,
this small independent supplier to the Mechanical
Services Industry continued to trade under its
own name until 1991, when it was changed to T.G.Lynes
and Sons Ltd - South London Branch.
On 1st December 2003, T.G.Lynes celebrated
both the opening of its new Distribution Centre
and a change in the official Company name to T.G.Lynes
Ltd. The Company’s head office, main distribution
operation and plant hire facilities were all relocated
from Kings Cross to a modern, purpose-built warehouse
facility in Enfield.
Our aim is to provide customers with an even greater
depth of stock as well as allowing us to build
upon our efficient and effective delivery service.
